Mountain Village Met After All

A correction from us, fifteen employee apartments in Mountain Village, two workforce housing deadlines in Telluride and Mountain Village, and the last two weeks of gondola before the fall shutdown.

The short version

We got one wrong last week: Mountain Village's Design Review Board did meet in October, on the 1st, and the agenda had real housing on it. Two housing deadlines are close: Meadowlark lottery applications are due Monday, October 12, at noon, and Telluride's winter RV spaces in Town Park are due October 30. Mountain Village Town Council meets October 15. Telluride's dockets for October 21 and 22 are unchanged. The gondola's summer season ends October 25 and it does not reopen until November 20.

Second note, first correction. That is about the right pace for a column written by people who measure twice.

The correction: the board met on October 1

Last week’s note said October was a month the Mountain Village Design Review Board (DRB, the appointed board that reviews what gets built in the Village) skips. It is not. The board met on Thursday, October 1, and the agenda is posted on the town’s site. The part we had right: the next meeting is Thursday, November 5, at 10 a.m.

What was on the October 1 agenda, as posted:

  • 306 Adams Ranch Road (Lot 640A) — final architecture review for 15 employee apartments in a multifamily building, continued from September 3.
  • 100 Pennington Place (Lot 726-R1) — final architecture review for four multifamily units.
  • Two new single-family homes, on Snowdrift Lane (Lot 224-B) and San Joaquin Road (Lot 1171-R), neither heard. The first asked to be continued to December 3; the second asked to be tabled to February 4, 2027.

The town has not posted the outcomes yet, so we do not know how the votes went. We’ll check, and say so here.

Fifteen employee apartments is the item to watch. As we said last week about Carhenge, housing close to the work is the one thing that shortens every schedule in the valley.

Town Council: October 15

Mountain Village Town Council holds its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, October 15, at 2 p.m. at Town Hall.

On the 15th there is a public hearing on an ordinance that takes the Housing Authority’s fee amounts out of the municipal code and puts them in the annual fee schedule Council sets. Housekeeping, mostly.

Housing: two deadlines

The Mountain Village Housing Authority is holding a second tiered lottery for two deed-restricted homes at Meadowlark. Unit C116 is three bedrooms and 2.5 baths in 1,461 square feet, priced at $839,728. Unit B109 is three bedrooms and three baths in 1,817 square feet with a garage, priced at $1,105,238.

Applications are due Monday, October 12, at noon, and the drawing is Thursday, October 22, at 4 p.m. The first tier is essential workers and people employed by businesses in Mountain Village; the second is people employed within the Telluride R-1 School District. One application per household. Details are at meadowlarkatmountainvillage.com.

In Telluride, the town opened applications on October 8 for its Temporary Winter Community Housing program: nine spaces for RVs, campers or trailers up to 25 feet along the north side of the Town Park parking lot, each with an electrical hookup. Rent is $315 a month with a $630 security deposit, and the lease runs November 23 through April 11, 2027. Applicants must work within the Telluride R-1 School District and show 1,400 hours of employment in the past 12 months, or at least 325 secured hours during the lease. Applications are due Friday, October 30, at noon. Details are at bit.ly/tottwchp.

Telluride: checked Thursday, nothing moved

We reread the town’s public-notice pages on Thursday, October 8. Both match last week’s note: the same four items before the Historic and Architectural Review Commission (HARC) on October 21, the same three before Planning & Zoning (P&Z) on October 22, and 510 W. Columbia on November 2.

One wrinkle: the town calendar lists the separate HARC Chair session on October 21 as canceled. The full commission meeting that day is still on.

The next two weekends

Mountain Village’s second annual Oktoberfest runs October 9 to 11 in Heritage Plaza and the Village Center. There is a puppy parade, which we mention without comment.

The Telluride Horror Show, which we covered last week, has since announced its lineup for October 16 to 18, including a world premiere of the final cut of Recluse.

Then the quiet starts. The gondola’s summer season ends Sunday, October 25, and the winter season begins November 20.

What this means on a job site

  • The gondola gap is a commute problem. From October 26 until November 20, anyone who rides it between Telluride and Mountain Village is driving instead. If your trades are split between the two towns, expect a few more trucks and slightly later mornings.
  • Count review dates, not weeks. A spring start in the Village depends on which meeting you make, and November 5 is the next one.
  • Winter housing is a crew question. If someone on your job plans to winter in a camper, the Town Park spaces are first come, first reviewed, and the paperwork needs proof of hours. October 30 is the deadline.

If any of this touches a lot or a house of yours, the office number is on our contact page and every other page of this site.
